"CUBA BC" Captures Major Media Attention

We have been capturing major U.S. media attention with our new song "Cuba BC (Before Castro)" the true life story of Fred's journey to America from Cuba in 1962 as part of "Operation Pedro Pan." (Read more about Fred's journey.)

The coincidental timing of Pres Obama's historic visit to Cuba while starting to normalize US-Cuba relations couldn't be a better backdrop for the release of our song. David wanted to capture and preserve Fred's memories of the paradise Cuba once was "before Castro" and communism forced his mother to send him alone to America at age 10.

We have released a preview video to accompany the song, with footage of us in studio, on stage, as well as photos from Fred's childhood. The song and video got the attention of both CNN Español and NBC TV, leading to feature stories with Fred talking about Cuba and immigration, and David and Fred playing their song together. Even Fred's mother is featured!

CUBA BC - THE SONG THAT IS  FRED'S TRUE LIFE STORY

Fred "Fernando" Beato was born in 1952 and raised in Cuba where his father played violin for the Cuban Philharmonic.  Sadly his father passed away when Fred was young, then when Fidel Castro came to power and turned the idyllic Cuban island paradise into an oppressed Communist country, his widowed mother Cory selflessly sent Fred to Miami at age 10, alone, during Operation Pedro Pan (Peter Pan- sending kids to Neverland) to give him the chance for a better life. 1968 - FRED AND DAVID'S BAND WINS U.S. BATTLE OF THE BANDS

Read the Symbols of Tyme Story

It was 1967 and young high school sophomore, drummer Fred Beato, had a vision to put a band together. Not just any band, but “his own” hand-chosen band. He was an unstoppable force with that hot Cuban blood and eye-of-the-tiger hunger who followed his instincts and managed to corral a bunch of multi-ethnic local musicians to form what would become the hottest band in the South Bay of Los Angeles.
